A Crown Solicitor is a lawyer appointed by warrant of the Governor-General for a particular district.  Crown Solicitors are responsible for the conduct of jury trials and appeals in the High Court and District Court on behalf of the Crown. 

Raymond Donnelly was established in 1911 and has held the warrant for the Office of Crown Solicitor for Christchurch since 1914 and for Greymouth since 1984.
